ChoreShare
Intro
In a world of dual incomes and individualized living, sharing household chores is vital. Without collaboration, family harmony suffers.
So, we set out to unite families in joyfully tackling domestic tasks together. It all starts with an idea.
Problem Space
Employed women spend about 2.3 hours daily on housework, compared to Employed men, this figure is 1.6 hours.
About 91 % of women with children spend at least an hour daily on housework, compared with 30 % of men with children.
I believe that by providing families with a digital platform for coordinating and sharing household chores, we can increase collaboration, reduce conflicts, and improve overall satisfaction with chore management within the household.
Hypothesis
How might we inspire families to develop a sense of shared responsibility for household chores in a fun, and engaging way?
User Testing
Through secondary research, interviews with five mothers and seven surveys, I realized that there is a serious imbalance in household chores not only in my surroundings but also in many other places.
Key research insights
I believe that by providing families with a digital platform for coordinating and sharing household chores, we can increase collaboration, reduce conflicts, and improve overall satisfaction with chore management within the household. It was my role to solve this issue!
These key learnings highlight the holistic approach to managing household chores within a family, emphasizing fairness, cooperation, and effective utilization of resources and technology.

Design Challenge & My Role
Transforming a Household Cleaning App into an Engaging Experience
The Initial Idea:
When I embarked on this project, the goal was to create a professional and organized app for household cleaning. However, as I delved deeper into the psychology of users, I realized that cleaning is often perceived as a mundane and undesirable task.
This presented a significant challenge: how to transform a seemingly mundane task into an engaging and enjoyable experience for users.
The Shift in Direction
To address this challenge, I decided to pivot the app's design towards a more gamified and lighthearted approach. This involved incorporating elements of game mechanics. So I needed to change to a funky, character-filled family profile rather than generic emoticons. Diverse colour palettes were necessary to create an enjoyable, light, and uplifting mood for the viewer.
Mood Board
Additionally, I recognized the importance of appealing to a wider audience, including children. To achieve this, My role was to introduce a colorful and playful design aesthetic, featuring customizable characters and a welcoming overall atmosphere.
UI Inspiration Board
What I found in other similar apps was that they often had too many tasks or were not approachable. Users seemed to be deterred by the complexity and overwhelming amount of text, making it difficult to engage with the app.
To make it easily accessible, simplicity is key, and information should be presented in a way that is easily digestible at a glance. However, these apps had too much text, making it cumbersome to read through and not enticing users to return frequently.

Key Takeaways
This project showed how important it is to understand what users like and adjust designs for them. By shifting the focus from mere task completion to creating a fun and engaging experience, I was able to transform a seemingly mundane app into a valuable tool that motivated users and made cleaning more enjoyable. I believe that’s was joy of working as UX designer.
